Taxi an Endangered Species

We’re sorry, our red squirrel, has been chased away,
By greys from America.who came to stay.
I fear the same fate, for our black cabs, awaits,
Their cheery amber lights belie, their struggle to survive,
Circling and in queues for days and nights they strive.
Whilst old customers search on line and companies make a killing.
Same as the foreign squirrel, multiplied here in huge numbers,
Uber cars are increasing, clogging the streets of London.
Accidents by Uber’s, seem to go unreported,
Whilst accidents in taxis through the years unheard of.
Rapes in Uber cars, we hear of in the press,
And the knowledge of the drivers seems to get less and less.
But still the politicians, fail our iconic, safe black cabs,
Their puzzling indifference; our tourist trade it stabs.
The taxi driver welcomes, the new arrival to our shores;
Ambassadors of England, but devalued more and more.
Soon like red squirrels, I fear in London, seen no more.
