Song of Christmas

Robin Redbreast from his cosy tree house home
Gazed at the waning moon, seeing Santa in his sled, speeding home.
Among the twinkling fading morning stars he raced
Willing his reindeers on, to reach home long before the moon was gone.
He heard Santa’s deep throated song, urging the beasts on;
Whilst the snow flakes softly fell, onto the ground, then were gone.
The cockerel in the farmyard heralded in Christmas Day
The cows mood the chickens chirped and the dog barked where he lay.
The suckling kittens content, whilst their mother in her basket purred.
And all across the country it seemed the world after sleep had stirred.
The chapel bells peeled, welcoming the people
Robin spread his wings and flew up to the steeple.
All the village rooftops, were covered with snow
Dove grey the smoke, curling from the chimney stacks below.
He heard the crackle of burning wood in the fire places
And watched the children tying bows, with their shoe laces.
He heard the clatter of the baker, lifting out bread loaves
And the simmering and bubbling of pots on the stoves.
The snap of crackers pulled at the tables.
And horses neighing in the stables.
Gifts being opened with whoops of glee
Happiness for everyone, you and me.
All around the sound of music, let everyone belong,
Robin’s red chest he puffed out, and he sang his Christmas song.
