Christmas Eve night.

The barn owl opened his wise old eyes
This night was the night, the best night of the year.
He would see his friend, Father Christmas at last.
Father Christmas had used his help in years past.
Owl knew the children as he had seen them last.
His white heart shaped face, can be seen in the dark they’d be fast.
Owl heard the tinkling of silver bells and Santas warm deep laugh,
‘You can see from my sack’ Father Christmas called out, I’ve already delivered half’
He flew from the barn and up into the starry sky.
On Santa’s red shoulder he perched , not shy,
Whispering how good the children had been all year.
Santa Clause smiled his smile, full of cheer.
They found the flat where Mary lived
No need to use the chimney there was a lift.
Tom lived with his granny, so they left her a gift.
She was admired by all, for her thrift.
So many children to visit whilst they slept;
A promise he made them, and always kept.
They worked through the night
Until light streaked the sky
Then the friends wished each other a merry Christmas, and said good by.
