Dish of Shame

You once flew with joy
Skimming trees and fern.
With your brothers you were free to fly
In God’s blue skies, you so enjoyed
The freedom to sing, part of nature’s glorious scene.

Now, you sit soulless, on a serving dish,
For greedy man, to digest.

You heard the false mating call
Which drew you to the trap.
You stood no chance, your doom was sealed;
For your feet stuck fast, to the evil paste;
Callously they cut you free
Your fear and pain ignored; they didn’t care.
Then they sold your life; five euros, was the fare.

Now, you sit soulless, on a serving dish,
For greedy man, to digest.
