The Band Came to Play

Last Sunday, The Royal corps of Signals, came to my home to play.
So appreciative were they of the pool lunch and hospitality;
They wanted to pay, so for me and my friends they started to play.
Waves of music danced through the still summer night air,
Beautiful, beloved melodies of now and yesteryear;
Perfection, for me woven with fine threads of magnificent history;
Of courage valour and sacrifice.
In 1922 The Corps was officially separately formed.
Historically soldiers served in all theatres of war, across the world;
Hence on their cap badge, Mercury’s left foot steadies the globe.
Sadly for us soon to leave Cyprus in the sun;
Going home to their base in Devon.
We will never forget the magic of their music,
And the proud tradition, these young soldiers, on their shoulders carry.
