The Scrounger

Uninvited, the scrounger strolls up for lunch dinner or tea
And simpering enquires if he may join the party.
Sunny smiles fade, disappointment reigns
High spirits sink, like a toy boat in high seas.
Joyous conversation alters in an instant.

Bland boring recommendations the scrounger now imparts
Rudely interjecting the host whose story is flowing,
When the host protests the scrounger suggests
She is the one to desist from regaling.

The scrounger with no manners to excuse himself from the table,
Makes and receives telephone calls as he is able
And as usual, when the bill is presented,
The scrounger wonders off, deaf and blind to the paying procedure.
